PTSD, Trauma, & EMDR

“Old trauma can be resolved. It doesn’t have to feel the way it has always felt.”
~Christian Torres-George, LCSW
Compartmentalizing like the best of 'em.
You know those past trauma and PTSD triggers you thought were ancient history?
Well, sometimes it sneaks back into your life, uninvited. 'Surprise! I'm still here!' And unless you deal with it, it's just gonna stick around.
Then there's the other past stuff that you've worked really hard to bury and avoid. Even though you know that approach hasn't worked before, you still try it, hoping that this time might be different.
But let's face it, if it were a successful strategy, you wouldn’t be here looking for another way, am I right?
You find yourself distracted by a barrage of intrusive thoughts that make themselves known in conversations with your friends, kids, spouse, or in the middle of your workday.
It makes it so hard for you to show up in your daily roles in a way that you feel really proud of.
Instead, you move through your life, totally in your head with the company of your own thoughts—the negative, self-sabotaging, self-blaming kind.
It's pretty crappy to have these playing out in your head all day. You’re ready to flip the script.
This must be carefree living?!
Ever since you started therapy with me, you're starting to feel more like yourself, in both familiar and brand-new ways.
You've managed to make it through all that heavy lifting, sorting through past traumas, and now? Well, you're feeling pretty damn content with yourself and your life.
And guess what? You're dealing with way less unnecessary friction. It's kind of strange, but you never thought you'd actually look forward to the regular obstacles and stresses that life throws your way.
But here's the real kicker: those intense, intrusive thoughts that used to take up so much space in your mind?
They're not popping up as often now, and it's such a relief not to constantly dwell on things or blame yourself for every little thing.
Feeling happy in everyday ordinary moments. Like being fully present, playing your kids' favorite game, and laughing at their hilarious antics.
Picture yourself having the most exhilarating workout, fueled not just by exercises, but by your favorite tunes, getting lost in the rhythm.
Feeling so good about yourself…it’s about time!
The Rock in your healing journey.
EMDR brings a whole new dynamic to healing and moving forward—it's like taking things up a notch.
And when the going gets tough, which is very normal and not at all uncommon in trauma work, my style as a therapist will come through for you.
Showing up for you in a way that greatly benefits how this process feels for you is very important to me.
That's why I aim to bring calmness, patience, and non-judgmental support, which feels very natural to me.
I’m here to walk alongside you from our very first session to our last, offering nurturing support every step of the way.
EMDR in a Nutshell:
Usually, when traumatic memories come to mind, they simply re-traumatize us, so we try to push them out of mind.
EMDR is a method of revisiting challenging experiences for the purpose of resolving the trauma, once and for all, so that the memories of what happened are no longer tied up with those awful emotions and sensations.
These sessions act as a mental reset button. It’s like giving your brain a chance to sort through past clutter, holding onto the good things and finally getting rid of the bad, until everything feels lighter and more manageable.
Believe me, you’ll begin noticing changes much faster than if we were to dissect every little detail in talk therapy.
